Empire of Gold (Hangul: 황금의 제국; RR: Hwanggeum-eui Jegook) is a 2013 South Korean television series starring Go Soo, Lee Yo-won, and Son Hyun-joo. It airs on SBS beginning 2013-July-1,  on Mondays & Tuesdays at 21:55 for 24 episodes.

Synopsis
This drama is about the power struggle between three people in one chaebol empire during the turbulent era of Korean finance in the early 1990s for 20 years.
Jang Tae Joo (Go Soo) is the man who will build up his so-called empire of gold from nothing and raises his little sister on his own after their father dies. He fall in love with Choi Seo Yoon (Lee Yo Won), chaebol heiress. But his biggest rival is her older brother Choi Min Jae (Son Hyun Joo).

  • Go Soo as Jang Tae-joo
Jang Tae-joo comes from nothing, and his ambition grows after witnessing the misfortunes of his poor hardworking father. After their father dies, Tae-joo raises his little sister Hee-joo on his own, and fights tooth and nail to rise to the top by his wits alone. Smart, passionate, and cheerful, he endures contempt and humiliation as he works tirelessly toward his dreams of success and wealth. But he encounters betrayal and exploitation, which gradually transform him into a cold-as-ice victor.

A guarded and aloof chaebol heiress, and the daughter of Sungjin Group's CEO. She and Tae-joo fall in love, and Seo-yoon struggles between love and family loyalty as Tae-joo goes head-to-head with her family's company.
  • Son Hyun-joo as Choi Min-jae
He is Seo-yoon's cousin, and Tae-joo's biggest rival for Sungjin Group's top seat. Choi Min-jae is a ruthless, cunning, and unscrupulous businessman who spends his days lobbying and making backdoor deals.
  • Ryu Seung-soo as Jo Pil-doo
A mob boss who is the antagonist to Jang Tae-joo's start-up business, and becomes a growing threat as he amasses more and more power through dirty money.
  • Jang Shin-young as Yoon Seol-hee
A woman who uses her looks to get insider information, and sets up a real estate consulting firm to sell what she knows. It's a dangerous line of work, but she'll go into business with Jang Tae-joo and team up with him against the Choi family.
